the vocal duo of sisters Erica Campbell and Tina Campbell, will appear in concert at 8 p.m. today, April 12, in the Mobile Civic Center Arena.
Five things to know about the chart-topping sister act:
1. One of the Campbells' key strengths is their ability to take music proudly rooted in a gospel background and cross it over to pop audiences. It’s an approach that has worked since their breakthrough hit “Shackles (Praise You)” which hit the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart in 2000. Another prime example would be “God in Me,” which topped both the Hot Gospel Songs chart and the Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart in 2009. (
2. The duo claims three Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, an NAACP Image Award and a BET Award. They claimed their most recent Grammy this year, with “Go Get It” winning as best gospel song. (,
3. The sisters also have crossed over to TV: Two seasons of the reality show “Mary Mary” have aired on the We tv cable network. The show reportedly has been renewed for a third season. It follows the sisters as they grapple with the challenges of “balancing their busy lives as worldwide recording artists with the demands of being mothers and wives.” (
4. Sometimes they cross back over. The sisters’ most recent album, “Go Get It,” comprises “music featured in and inspired by the We series.” It’s also effectively a best-of album that “works as a representative overview of the premier contemporary gospel act of the 2000s.” Released last summer, it has hit No. 1 on the gospel chart, No. 3 on the R&B chart and No. 16 on the overall Billboard 200. (
5. The sisters have explained that they had a clear biblical idea in mind when naming their act: "We were thinking about the Marys in the Bible, and there are two specifically: Mary Magdalene, who was delivered from evil spirits, and of course Mary, mother of Jesus, both of whom were very instrumental in His ministries. [Mary Mary is] about Jesus and telling people who He is and of His love." (

I'm hearing a rumour that they are breaking up or taking a break.... I'm still finding out, will bring you guys enough gist.
