Oprah Winfrey And Tyler Perry Cover Essence Magazine's May Issue

Two Christian media forces are sharing the May coverof Essence Magazine. Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, two of the most influential African-Americans in the country, are opening up about their new business relationship
"We both know how rare this is," Oprah told Essence. "Where else in the history of our African-American culture have two really, really successful people who can do whatever they want said, 'Let’s come together and be even more powerful—let’s take it to the tenth power?'"
It was first revealed in October 2012 that director, actor, screenwriter, and producer Perry would be partnering with OWN to develop series programming and other projects for the cable channel.
"It's a dream realized to partner with Oprah and bring scripted programming to OWN. She has accomplished so much with the network and I'm excited to work with her to be a part of its continued growth," he said in an email statement.
When it comes to teaming with the OWN CEO, Perry explained the dynamics of the relationship, where both have separate views on what is effective and acceptable.
"Both of us have to continue to live in our truth. If she doesn’t like something, say it. If I don’t like something, I’ll say it. And we'll figure it out and keep moving on," he told the magazine.
Perry's drama The Haves and the Have Nots premieres May 28. The sitcom Love Thy Neighbor debuts May 29.
“I’m hoping that the energy of our coming together will go out to other people,” he said.
