Tramaine Hawkins and Donnie McClurkin To Be Honoured At The Essence Festival 2013

Two gospel legends will be honored at this year’s annual Day of Praise & Inspiration at the ESSENCE Festival on July 7.
Donnie McClurkin, 53, and Tramaine Hawkins, 61, will enjoy tributes, as the iconic brand celebrates their storied careers. The free event, which will feature tribute performances from Yolanda Adams, Isaac Carree, Kim Burrell, Kurt Carr, Michelle Williams, Tyronne Foster & The Arc Singers, Bishop Lester Love and Bishop Noel Jones, is sure to attract a huge crowd to New Orleans' Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
On January 18, 2013, Hawkins was honored at BMI's 14th annual Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards Luncheon in Nashville, TN, along with Edwin Hawkins and Kurt Carr. Three years prior, both McClurkin and Andraé Crouch, received the same honor.
This year's gospel tribute will be hosted by Cheryl Wills, anchor for New York 1 News.
"I remember when Tramaine Hawkins came out in the 70s and redefined gospel music. Donnie McClurkin took it to the next level," she said in an interview with ESSENCE.
During the discussion, Wills also took time to applaud the Time Inc. owned corporation for "giving gospel a spotlight at this Festival that attracts hundreds of thousands of people.
